Kareem Carryl
Kareem Carryl (CC'15) is from Brooklyn, New York and is the President of the Columbia College Student Council Class of 2015 (CCSC 2015). He is also known as the self-proclaimed "Selfie King" of Columbia University. Spending most of his time at Columbia by serving his class on student council and working through sleepless nights, he is often called the "Real" MVP of CCSC.
Accomplishments
During his three year tenure on CCSC, he worked hard to be an advocate for his classmates, ensuring that they get the most out of their time at Columbia. On the 2015 Columbia College Class Day Speaker Committee, Kareem and CCSC 2015 sought to identify the individual who best represented the College and would most inspire the student body. This resulted in the selection of Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti [1] [2] . Additionally, he worked to ensure that CC and SEAS students on financial aid would have the $55 cost for graduation caps & gowns covered by the administration [3].
His other work includes email recognition of Dean's List from the Columbia College Dean, creating the Junior Boat Cruise tradition, and co-drafting a proposal calling for an extension to the Columbia College Drop Deadline to alleviate some of the stress experienced around the decision to drop a class. He was also an executive board member of the Columbia College Student Ambassadors, a group which helps build connections between students and alumni.
