Lambda Phi Epsilon is one of Columbia's several multicultural fraternities recognized by the Multicultural Greek Council and one of the council’s two Asian-interest fraternities. The chapter was founded on April 17, 1999 at Columbia University. The fraternity more commonly goes by its nickname Lambda.
In spring 2013 the chapter earned a 5 star ALPHA Standards of Excellence rating and was awarded the ALPHA Standard’s Highest Achievement Award from the Inter Greek Council (along with Delta Gamma) for outperforming every Greek organization on the standards, i.e. academics (high average GPA), community service (amount of total hours/ average hours per individual), campus involvement (amount of brothers involved in other campus activities), leadership development (amount of brothers in campus leadership positions), philanthropy (amount donated and scale of events hosted), housing behavior, and alumni information.
The chapter also earned a 5 star ALPHA Standards of Excellence rating in spring 2012, along with achievement awards in philanthropy (presented to chapters that raise over $60 per member), community service (presented to chapters that complete over 20 service hours per member), academics (presented to chapters that have an average GPA above 3.4), and campus involvement (presented to chapters where over 60% are involved in another campus activity.)
These were all of the awards that chapters could possibly receive that year.
Lambda Phi Epsilon Service and Philanthropy
One of Lambda Phi Epsilon’s missions is to raise Asian-American awareness. The chapter programs social and cultural events that aim to bring together a diverse community that is often divided along ethnic lines and to provide a united front when it comes to discriminatory actions that affect us all.
About Lambda
The members of Lambda Phi Epsilon National Fraternity strive to promote Asian-American awareness in its surrounding communities through the promotion of Asian-American interest activities. Such events include philanthropic causes, educating the community, and preserving Asian-American culture. Since its inception, Lambda Phi Epsilon's goals have been to "exemplify the highest standards of academic performance, social experience, service to the community, and most importantly brotherhood among its members."
Columbia Lambda Phi Epsilon is "a tight-knit group with dedicated involvement in a majority of Asian cultural groups on campus: Chinese Students Club, TASA, KSA, etc."
