New Student Orientation Program
(Redirected from NSOP)
Welcome Class of 2017 admits... Once you're done here, head over to the prefrosh portal. |
The New Student Orientation Program takes up your first week at Columbia. There are no classes, but lots of events. Some of them are "mandatory." None of them really are—NSOP is the last week you're treated like high school students, i.e. as if you really had to be anywhere. On account of some of the, ahem, extracurricular passtimes of NSOP prefrosh, the week is also known as NSLOP, as in, "We got NSLOPPY last night."
Some past (official) events include:
- CU: Take One - This event is similar to the former BlaZe but was tweaked for 2007's orientation.
- Academic Resources Fair
- A party on Ellis Island exclusively for new Columbia University students
- A session that tells you how to use Columbia University Libraries
- New York Waterway Cruise for new transfer students
- A Top of the Rock tour for international students new to the university
- Open Mic Night
- Concert in Roone Arledge Auditorium
- Lerner Party
- Under1Roof
Past events
NSOP once included an event called "CUnity," which involved rotating small social circles and theoretically meeting lots of people. After the organizers realized no one really made lasting friendships this way, it was eschewed.
