Columbia University Science Fiction Society (CUSFS, pronounced "cuss-fuss") is a club dedicated to the appreciation of science fiction as well as "just about everything else geeky or fandom-related". Their previous slogan, "CUSFS: Not too cool for you"[1] no longer appears in the most current version of their website, but chances are that they continue not to be too cool for you. They hold weekly meetings, organize film viewings, RPG playing, and hold library hours.
So it SAYS science fiction up there, but really we embrace and accept anything geeky - if you're into video games, comics, manga, anime, a certain Nickelodeon cartoon that is a thousand times more awesome than most anime, obscure BBC car shows, terrible YA vampire novels that you only read ironically, you swear, or pretty much anything else awesome in this world, you'll find someone at CUSFS who wants to talk about it.
History
CUSFS was originally founded in 1966 by Fred Lerner ’66CC, ’81LS as the Columbia University Science Fantasy Society. However, the group dissipated soon after Fred's graduation and induction into the Army in June of that year. After returning from the army Fred Lerner returned to Columbia for post-graduate studies. He reformed the club in the summer of 1968 as the Fantasy and Science Fiction Society of Columbia University (FSFSCU, pronounced "fiss-fiss-cue"). FSFSCU published the fan-zine AKOS and survived into the early 1970s. The organization was revived in the 1980s once again as CUSFS, but this time as the Columbia University Science Fiction Society and is active to this day [2][3][4].
