'''Oliver Wolcott Gibbs''' [[Columbia College|CC]] [[1841]] was one of the most famous early American chemists. In what came to be known as the [[Gibbs Affair]], he was denied a position at Columbia by the [[trustees]] due to his Unitarian faith. He went on to be very successful at [[Harvard]]. 

While he was a student at Columbia, Gibbs was a member of [[Philo]].
