The '''Nicholas Murray Butler Medals''' are currently awarded every five years to individuals anywhere in the world who have made a distinguished contribution in philosophy or educational theory, practice or administration. The award has been administered since [[1915]], and was given out somewhat more frequently in previous years. The medals are either Gold, Silver, or Bronze.

They are named for domineering former University President [[Nicholas Murray Butler]].
