'''Joseph A. Greenaway, Jr.''' [[Columbia College|CC]] '[[1978|78]] is a judge sitting on the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. He was recently nominated by President [[Barack Obama]] to serve on the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, which covers Pennsylvania, [[New Jersey]], and Delaware. 

Greenaway was born in [[London]] to West Indian parents and migrated with them to the U.S. at age two. After earning his [[BA]] in history at Columbia he went on to [[Harvard]] Law. He worked stints in private practice and in the New Jersey U.S. Attorney's office, then worked in the corporate world and did teaching stints at [[Rutgers]] and Cardozo Law Schools before being nominated to the New Jersey District Court. He has also taught Columbia College courses, including a seminar on the [[Supreme Court]].

He is a decorated alum, having received a [[John Jay Award]], a [[University Medal for Excellence]], and being chosen to deliver the [[1998]] Columbia College [[Class Day]] address. 

Many have remarked on his similarities to the president who has nominated him to the Third Circuit: both are black men with immigrant backgrounds with Columbia and Harvard Law pedigrees.

Greenaway is also a member of the [[Trustees]].
