In 1999, he starred in ''10 Things I Hate About You'' with [[Julia Stiles]] before either was enrolled at Columbia. While at Columbia, the only school he even applied to, he studied history, literature, and French, becoming a professed Francophile and acknowledging that his time at the university helped him to grow up. Nevertheless, he dropped out again as soon as the acting bug struck him.

Lately, he's been on campus filming ''Premium Rush'', "an action story set in New York City, where a bike messenger picks up a package at Columbia University and subsequently catches the attention of a dirty cop".
