View source for Society of Columbia Graduates

The '''Society of Columbia Graduates''' (SOCG) is an alumni organization founded in [[1909]] whose members "promote and celebrate service to the University."  The organization selects its members through a nominating committee.  Membership is limited to graduates of [[Columbia College]] and [[SEAS]], and specifically limited to alumni who have provided "service to the University" for ten or more years.

The Society's most visible activity has been the presentation of [[Great Teacher Award]] each fall since [[1949]].  They also commissioned a statue of the "Teaching Lion" by Professor Stanley Wyatt in 1992.  The statue resides in the Rosencranz Reading Room on the 1st floor of [[Butler Library]].
