David Schapiro was a Columbia College student who famously sat at University President Grayson Kirk's desk while helping occupy Low Library during the 1968 protests.

Later, he won a Kellett Fellowship and became a poet.

His son, Daniel Shapiro, was a member of the Columbia College Class of 2007.
