John Dewey was an influential philosopher and educator. He taught and researched in several branches of the University, but is most well known for his work at Teachers College.
Among his notable students were Mortimer Adler and B.R. Ambedkar.
A plaque on the building that is home to Tom's Restaurant commemorates the period when Dewey lived there.
