A blue book is the standard book of paper in which students write their exam answers. The typical blue book has 8 half-letter-size pages available on which to write, although some versions come with 16 pages. Students typically fill 2-3 of of the shorter book per exam, which calls into question why the longer versions aren't available all the time.
