Columbia students have an Election Day holiday that stretches over the first Monday and Tuesday in November. The right not to have class during this period was established during some protest or another. Political activists use this time to do their thing (ex: the Columbia Democrats Annual Campaign Trip); other students enjoy the fact that they can finally laugh at their friends at other schools who were earlier laughing at them for not having Columbus Day off.
