Mike Gravel GS '56 is a former US Senator from Alaska credited with having helped end the draft during the Vietnam War and with publishing the Pentagon Papers. Gravel was a Democratic candidate in the 2008 presidential election, one of several defeated in the primaries by Barack Obama.
While at Columbia, Gravel was an Econ major. He moved to Alaska after graduation with the specific goal of running for Senate.
