Joseph Mankiewicz CC '28 was a film director, screenwriter, and producer.
He twice won the Academy Award for both Best Director and for Best Screenplay (in 1949 and 1950). His brother, Herman Mankiewicz CC 1917, was also an Oscar winner.
While at Columbia, Mankiewicz worked on the Jester. In 1986, he won the Alexander Hamilton Medal.
