The Donald Keene Center of Japanese Culture was founded in 1986 in honor of Japanologist Donald Keene. Its mission is to "advanc[e] the understanding of Japan and its culture in the United States through university instruction, research, and public education," and "to encourage study of the interrelationships among the cultures of Japan, other Asian countries, Europe, and the United States". The center is located in Kent Hall.

Among the events is sponsors are the Soshitsu Sen Distinguished Lectures on Japanese Culture.
