During the blizzard of January 22nd, 2014, Columbia students gathered to brutalize each other with piles of soft, fluffy snow. Jason Carroll, an intrepid CNN reporter, arrived at Columbia to cover the mayhem. However, students were in high spirits, and happy to help him experience the mayhem first hand. As he reported live, with Anderson Cooper (the silver fox himself) asking him questions, Carroll was utterly annihilated by snowballs. The vicious attack did not manage to deter Carroll, although he said something to the effect of "I need defense out here" through a mouthful of snow.

It is unclear whether or not the incident was humanizing or demonizing for Columbia students' reputation at large.
