Cornell University (as it is called by students and alumni), or SUNY Ithaca (as it is called by everybody else) is a quasi-private quasi-Ivy League university mostly located in some far-off piece of flyover country located the part of New York no one really knows or talks much about.
That said, parts of it are located in NYC, begging the question of why it hasn't been able to get its act together and locate all of its facilities here, though Cornell's victory in the 2011 Applied Sciences NYC competition and commitment to build a new campus on Roosevelt Island shows that they might finally be coming to their senses.
Cornell is widely known for being filled with Columbia rejects, for having a SUNY agriculture school, and for - even more incredibly - supporting a hotel management school.
