Shaky finances and impact on campus
In 2003, Union agreed to lease three buildings to Columbia in order to stabilize shaky finances. These are 80 Claremont Ave, which houses the university's Religion Department and Science and Technology Ventures; Knox Hall, used by the Economics Department and Sociology Department departments; and Dickinson Hall.[1]
In the 2020s, the seminary has also acted on air rights it discovered in the 1980s to allow for a condo tower, Claremont Hall, to be constructed on campus in order to derive more revenue.
