- Grad students strike during finals for the second year in a row; this time joined by sympathizers from Yale. A giant inflatable rat is positioned outside the 116th Street gates.
- Robert Kraft is the keynote speaker at Columbia College Class Day
Fall
- October 15: Roar-ee the Columbia Lion adopted as Columbia's athletic mascot
- December: Subway strike fucks up New York City, but everyone still required to be at Columbia, every day, on time
