Columbia Cottage was a Chinese restaurant on Amsterdam Avenue on the corner of 111th St. Allegedly, before it was Chinese, it served Hungarian food, making this stretch of Amsterdam (together with Hungarian Pastry Shop) a practical Little Budapest.
The food was hit-or-miss, but the place was nevertheless popular for its free wine served without checking ID. And it had the fastest delivery service ever. The NYPD liked to get takeout from here, perhaps because the owners bribe them with free food to help overlook underage drinking.
However, the place also ranks high on the health code violations according to the Department of Health website.
In early 2014, Bwog reported that the restaurant was shutting down.[1] A note posted on its storefront said that increasing rents were to blame for the closure.
It is currently an Italian restaurant called Tartina.
