The Samuel Johnson Medal for Distinguished Achievement is given by the Columbia Engineering Alumni Association to an alumnus/a in recognition of achievement outside the realm of engineering or applied science.

The name is curious, since it's named after Samuel Johnson, the first president of King's College who really didn't have much to do with engineering and predated the foundation of SEAS by over a century.

The creation of the award was announced in Spring 2005.
