Hurricane Sandy was a serious storm in 2012. It resulted in multiple days of cancelled classes, and thus multiple days of heavy drinking for Columbia students. Though the storm caused significant devastation in New York City and the Northeast at large, Morningside Heights was left largely untouched aside from a few downed branches.
Classes were canceled on both Monday and Tuesday following the storm, so naturally many got very drunk and few did any catch-up work [1].
