The Lehman Social Sciences Library is located in the basement of IAB. Many people joke that its basement location and space-age design make it feel like a Cold War bunker. Plus, rooms tend to suck up noise, so the place is generally dead silent.

Study spaces

Lehman is open until 4 AM in the weeks leading up to finals, including on weekends. Although crowded, it is far, far better than Butler Library in terms of noise and space.

Spaces fill up quickly in the regular study area, so look for cubicles in the empty bookcase areas downstairs or the large tables by the atlases. There is also an empty loft level and a group study area. The computer lab is large and features cathedral-like ceilings, but is tucked away in a difficult-to-find corner of the complex.

Note that some study spaces, particularly the tables in the basement, have an extreme shortage of power sockets (you have to plug your laptop directly into sockets in the wall, and these are notoriously sparse). Lehman veterans have been known to bring power strips to provide enough sockets for themselves and their studymates. So beware. On the plus side, this means the basement is very quiet and uncrowded.
