The Artist Society is a student run group that runs weekly figure drawing sessions in 501 Dodge Hall, Fridays from 6-8pm. The Society was founded in 2006 by a group of artists who felt it was necessary for students to have an opportunity to create art within the Columbia Community without having to enroll in a class. The board is made up of students of various disciplines, representing students who are not majoring in visual arts, but still have a passion in pursuing them. The Society is open to all Columbia Univeristy students (CC, SEAS, GS, BC, etc) of all experience levels. Membership is awarded to any person who attends at least one session and regular attendence is not required.

The models used are hired by the Society itself through a model coordinator. They must be able to hold poses for up to 20 minutes (longer poses are reclining/sitting). Models can pose nude, partially clothed, or costumed. No experience is necessary.
