Caroline W. Bynum is a former University Professor and was the first woman in the history of Columbia to hold that title. She was also briefly Dean of the School of General Studies and was also the recipient of a MacArthur "Genius" Grant, a Mark Van Doren Award, and a Lionel Trilling Book Award. She is now at the Institute for Advanced Studies.
