The alumni federation was not an alumni association in its own right. It did not seek to develop a university-wide body of alumni and host events of its own. This was as a tremendous shortcoming in terms of Alumni Relations on the university-wide level, and ultimately led to its succession by the [[Columbia Alumni Association]] in June of 2005.
