Mascot.com was an ill-fated commercial predecessor to CUCommunity, and later Facebook. The short version of the story is that Columbia contracted with Mascot Networks, Inc. to create a student portal. It largely flopped. So it was redesigned. And then Mascot Networks, Inc. went out of business, leaving Columbia and many other schools with nothing to show for the investment. Kind of funny, really. Oh, and for good measure, Columbia's Mascot site excluded GS students.
