Columbia University is us. It was founded as King's College in 1754. King's College was renamed Columbia College after the American Revolution - a decidedly patriotic name. Other colleges were then founded, but the term "Columbia College" still referred to the undergraduate institution. Thus, Columbia University was incorporated to differentiate them.
