Stuyvesant High School is one of several specialized high schools (i.e. magnet schools) in New York. Eighth and ninth graders' scores on a standardized exam determine their eligibility for entrance. It has a long history of sending students to Columbia. Interestingly, it began as a technical vocational school. Now it is a vocational school for the bourgeoisie.
