Thetagate was a spring 2014 scandal-lette. Sisters of Kappa Alpha Theta, headed for an Olympics-themed party, dressed as Mexicans (see photo at right). Spec wrote about it, including almost no context—only the Mexican-costume photos—before adding more information[1].
Naturally, statements were released by the IGC and Dean Martinez and the Chicano Caucus[2][3]. There was a bias incident team and stuff.
Then Bwog posted photos of Chicano Caucus members as Mexican stereotypes and set it against their own statement about Thetagate[4]. And Chicano Caucus released another statement[5].
Katie Baker, CC '15 and Theta president, resigned over the photos[6][7].
Turns out there were other Greek orgs involved—including Sig Ep, which was smart enough to demand upon representing no other nation than our own, and thereby escaped heat[8].
