Columbia Model United Nations is an organization that spurs debate in an environment simulating the United Nations. Model United Nations provides students with an opportunity to explore the field of international politics from a variety of angles.
The first is through intercollegiate Model UN conferences, where our delegation participates in committee simulations at other Universities. In the coming year, we anticipate attending Yale, Georgetown, UPENN, McGill, Princeton, Harvard, UChicago, World MUN, Berkley, and UVA. This last year, we attended eight total conferences and won four best small delegation awards, one outstanding small delegation award, and over forty individual awards.
This organization also offers students the chance to become involved in Columbia's own student run high school conference, CMUNCE, and our college conference, CMUNNY.
Columbia Model UN also hosts its newly inaugurated program Educational Simulations (ESims). ESims is a day long Model UN conference which provides New York City high school students with the opportunity to debate and participate free of charge.
Last, but definitely not least, Columbia Model UN is a proud member of the Columbia Political Union. As such, we host guest speakers, discussion panels, and other politically oriented events. In addition to these various academic events, MUN provides the Columbia with study breaks, dinners, and other social events so that all members of the club can get to know each other.
History
Columbia Model United Nations had been a very prominent club on the Columbia Campus. However, the 2006-2007 school year was a big year for Columbia Model UN. Our traveling team was revived as we attended more conferences and won more awards than any generation. We also inaugurated the first ever college conference to be hosted on campus, called Columbia Model United Nations in New York (CMUNNY). Finally, we introduced the Educational Simulations program (ESims) which provided opportunities that many New York public school high school students may not have otherwise had in the past. These programs have proved very successful and hope to continue this success in upcoming years.

CMUNCE
The Columbia Model United Nations Conference and Exposition is an annual four-day international affairs conference for high school students from January 17-20, 2008. Held in the greatest city in the world, at one of the most prestigious universities in the world, CMUNCE has quickly grown into one of the most successful and unique Model UN experiences in the country. CMUNCE is known for its original committees, intense crisis simulations, extraordinarily dedicated staff, and focus on introducing its delegates to both Columbia and to New York City. Check out the website at CMUNCE.

CMUNNY
The second annual Columbia University Model United Nations in New York (CMUNNY) conference will be held from Thursday, October 11, 2007 to Sunday, October 14, 2007 on the Columbia University campus in Morningside Heights. Held in New York City, the heart of international diplomacy, CMUNNY II promises to be both a challenging and engaging experience for both delegates and staff. Noted for its small committees with an intense level of debate, CMUNNY allows each delegate to receive personal attention from its devoted dais and crisis staff. With nine distinct committees, ranging from the International Criminal Tribunal of Rwanda to the Panamanian Rebel Junta, CMUNNY II will develop the interests of all delegates while simultaneously providing the forum to explore new interests. Our dais staff has been working to plan their committees since the conclusion of CMUNNY I, and our staff of exemplary, knowledgeable and committed undergraduate students will work hard to ensure that delegates enjoy a weekend engaging debate and limitless possibilities for personal and social growth. Check out their website at CMUNNY.
