Columbia has an amazing Chinese language program. Things to write about include: teaching methods, faculty (esp. su taitai), diversity of students, summer in beijing program, other study abroad opportunities, overblown taiwan/china bias issue in B&W.

In general, student organisations are split up in two categories: one, clubs for students from China studying overseas, mostly graduate students, and two, clubs for students of Chinese descent, mostly undergraduates.

CSC

The Chinese Students Society is a group dedicated to Chinese identity / culture / etc. Members need not be from China, though most are of Chinese descent.

CUCSSA

The Columbia University Chinese Students & Scholars Association: United for China's Peaceful Rising is a batshit insane organisation made up of students from China. They have been accused of being "an arm of the Chinese government" in the majority of content on their website are attacks on Falun Gong sourced from the Chinese government, and that up until last spring, their "Advisory Board" consisted solely of Chinese diplomats based at the Chinese Consulate and UN mission.

HKSSS

The Hong Kong Students and Scholars Society is an organisation dedicated to supporting Hong Kong students at Columbia. Though students need not have any affiliation whatsoever with Hong Kong to join, all members are from Hong Kong.

CUTSA

The Columbia University Taiwanese Students Association is comprised of students from Taiwan.

TASA

The Taiwanese American Students Association is a group dedicated to Taiwanese identity / culture / etc. Members need not be from Taiwan, thouh most are of Taiwanese descent.

AAA

The Asian American Alliance is a pan-Asian student-interest group that is politically active in stuff like multiculturalism and diversity and affirmative action. They endorsed the hunger strike.
