Debora L. Spar, also known as DSpar, succeeded Judith Shapiro as the 11th head of Barnard College in 2008. She was formerly a professor at Harvard Business School, and has no past ties to Barnard. The first leader of Barnard held the rank of Chairman, and many following her were Deans. All leaders of Barnard have been women.
