Thomas Hunt Morgan was a famous biologist and geneticist whose experiments on fruit flies in his Schermerhorn Hall fly room were instrumental to modern genetics. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine for genetics in 1933, after he had left Columbia to start the biology department at Caltech.
