Roone Arledge, CC '52, was a sports broadcaster. Roone Arledge Auditorium and Roone Arledge Cinema are named after him.
Arledge came to Columbia desiring to be a sportswriter and hoping to take journalism classes as an undergrad. After discovering the Journalism School was graduate-only, he enrolled in Columbia College. After graduating, he enrolled at SIPA but dropped out. He went on to win a John Jay Award in 1979, as well as an Alexander Hamilton Medal.
