Max Caffe is a cafe on Amsterdam Avenue at 122nd St. It was opened 3 years ago by the owners of Max SoHa.
The place is a big grad-student hangout, perhaps because the coffee is better than the Hungarian's, if not quite as strong. The gelato, frittatas (omelets), and sandwiches are all tasty. It's a little too loud for studying and the music sucks, but a great spot for chatting. Max Cafe stays open till midnight. Also, there is happy hour from 5-7 on Wednesdays and Fridays. The wifi password is 'maxcafe' but it rarely works.
