Uzo Amuzie (SEAS '16) is a Computer Science & Pre-Law student and business software engineering intern at Goldman Sachs. His current professional interests/experiences are in software engineering, and he looks to ultimately be a successful Patent and Intellectual Property Attorney in a world that has an increasing necessity for knowledgeable STEM professionals in the field.
At Columbia, Uzo serves as a Resident Advisor of Broadway Hall and Campus Ambassador Lead for Goldman Sachs. He is also an active and proud member of the multicultural community on campus. Having been the only black student at his pre-engineering high school, he naturally found a home in the National Society Black Engineers (NSBE) upon entering university. Uzo currently serves as the 2015-2016 Region 1 Chairperson for NSBE, serving 12000+ pre-collegaite, collegiate, and professional chapters in the Northeastern US, Eastern Canada, and Western Africa. He previously served as Co-Chair of the Black Student Group Consortium -- a brain trust of students tasked with improving communication and collaboration between all black undergraduate, graduate & alumni groups on campus -- student manager of the Men's Varsity Basketball Team, and Vice President of the Residence Hall Leadership Organization (RHLO) Hall Council in the Living-Learning Center (LLC).
For his efforts in leadership, academic excellence, and community service, he was awarded nationally as a 2014 Cisco Corporate Scholar and 2013 General Motors Foundation Buick Achievers Scholar. He hopes to continue in his academic, professional, and community efforts so that he may inspire the next generation of convention-challengers.
