Courseworks was based on the Prometheus open source platform, and launched in 2001-2002. In 2002, Prometheus was bought by Blackboard, the vendor whose eponymous software serves the same role as courseworks at many of Columbia's peer institutions. CourseWorks lets you get info for your classes, but only if your professors bother to use it.

Professors can enable various features for their classes:

  • Discussion
  • Gradebook
  • Syllabus
  • Class files
