Columbia University Triathlon Club
Triathlon is a club sport started in the fall of 2005. Triathletes are encouraged to compete in a variety of triathlons during the school year including several indoor triathlons during the winter. Most of the training is done individually but the team will usually meet insanely early at around nine every Friday and Saturday for group runs or bike rides. The season culminates in an Ivy League championship which is the New York City Triathlon that occurs annually every August. The Columbia Triathlon team has had huge success taking the Ivy League Championship for three straight years in 2007 2008 and 2009. In 2009, Columbia destroyed second place Cornell in the Ivy league championship by nearly an entire hour. "The lowest combined time from the top five finishers from each school count toward the Championship. The top five must include at least one man and one woman. The name of the winning school goes on the perpetual trophy that stays in New York"Media:http://www.nyctri.com/Event_Information/Competition_Categories/The_Wall_Street_Journal_Ivy_Tri_Championship.htm. Current Triathlon team president is Matt Moline.
