David Schizer is the current dean of the law school and an expert in tax law. He has been a law professor since attaining his JD at age 25, and was appointed dean at 35, the youngest in Columbia Law history. Michael Dorf, head of the faculty search committee for a new dean, expresed that Schizer's youth would surround Columbia with an atmosphere of excitement. However, the selection of Schizer is sometimes seen as having instigated fatal divisiveness within the law school faculty, leading to several high-profile departures.
