- Presidential election: CC '83 alums Barack Obama (Democrat) and Wayne Allen Root (Libertarian) are competitors. The former will be the Democratic nominee, the latter is gunning for the Libertarian VP slot. GS alum Mike Gravel (Democrat) was a competitor during the primaries as well.

- Judith Shapiro will step down from her post as President of Barnard. She will be succeeded by Debora Spar.
