1961 in Columbia history:
- Morningside Park Gymnasium first proposed
- Columbia wins an Ivy League football title...it hasn't won one since.
- The Student Board, the Columbia College student government, is abolished by referendum. It won't be replaced until CCSC is established in 1979
- The groundbreaking of Uris Hall, the new home for the Business School, is picketed by Architecture students
