Richard A. Billows is a Professor of History, covering mostly classical Greek history, with some Roman tangents. He is fluent in English and Dutch, and literate in Latin and Greek. He received his A.B. from Balliol College, Oxford, and his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley.

He was once interviewed on a History Channel documentary on toilets describing ancient Greek commode technology and fecal disposal techniques.
