1975 in Columbia history:

May: "Woodring Report" on reorganization of the Arts and Sciences submitted to Provost De Bary; members of committee split on recommendations

August 8: Boris Yavitz succeeds Louis Volpe as Dean of the Business School

August: Wes Hennessey steps down as Dean of the School of Engineering; Ralph Schwarz as Acting Dean

November: College Dean Peter Pouncey permits the College Faculty to vote to have the College accept women; President McGill objects. On December 13, the trustees dissociate themselves from the College Faculty's vote to admit women into the College; they take the view "that Barnard would not survive" such a unilateral action.

December: Robert Belknap named Acting Dean of Columbia College following Pouncey's resignation after falling out with President McGill
