The Alumni Medal has been awarded since 1933 for "Conspicuous Alumni Service", i.e. distinguished service of 10 years or more to the University - including its schools, Alumni Associations, Regional Alumni Clubs, and University-wide initiatives.
Honorees are selected by the Columbia Alumni Association and recognized at University Commencement and at a dinner in Low Library.
In the past, the award had been given out by the now-defunct Columbia University Alumni Federation.
