Psychology is unfortunately viewed as an "easy-out" major for many CU students. However, the department contains many notable academics from the field, such as Walter Mischel and Tory Higgins, who are heavily referenced in numerous psychology texts. Majors can therefore get either a very intensive and rewarding experience through selectively taking classes with intellectual heavyweights or instead coast through taking just enough classes to fulfill the relatively light requirements.

Another potential downside (or advantage, depending on your perspective) of the major is the surfeit of Barnard students in it.
