Steve Estes SEAS '06, nicknamed the "Housing Guru" or "Lord of the Lottery," not to be confused with "God of Housing", was known for his extensive knowledge of campus housing. He was hired by campus housing as a freshman after answering upperclassmen's questions about the housing lottery on the department's bulletin board.

Over the years, he has been responsible for creating a number of new systems for the department, including the online room condition report and the housing satisfaction survey.

Estes majored in Applied Math. He lived in Harlem for two years, now lives on the Upper West Side, and works as a consultant. He still returns to Columbia frequently to help with admissions events, attend concerts by his a cappella group Nonsequitur, or go to CU Alumni events. He posts frequently on the Columbia board of the site CollegeConfidential.
