Alfred Lerner CC '55 was a wealthy businessman, sports team owner, and Columbia trustee.

He donated the money for Alfred Lerner Hall, which is named after him. He was also nearly instrumental in buying land near Lincoln Center for a new campus, but fell ill and was thwarted by President Bollinger's plans for a campus in Manhattanville before the plans could be completed.

In 1986, he won a John Jay Award, and in 1997, he won the Alexander Hamilton Medal.
