The Society of Columbia Graduates (SOCG) is an alumni organization founded in 1909 whose members "promote and celebrate service to the University." The organization selects its members through a nominating committee. Membership is limited to graduates of Columbia College and SEAS, and specifically limited to alumni who have provided "service to the University" for ten or more years.

The Society's most visible activity has been the presentation of Great Teacher Award each fall since 1949. They also commissioned a statue of the "Teaching Lion" by Professor Stanley Wyatt in 1992. The statue resides in the Rosencranz Reading Room on the 1st floor of Butler Library.
